Cris Noble / Bikingis.fun

Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions Cris –

Please introduce yourself to our readers by telling us about how you got into riding.

My name is Cris Noble and I have been riding a bike in some capacity since I was a kid. I started using it to commute to work in 2018 and from there started getting plugged into the larger San Diego biking community.

What are you working on / involved with?

Right now I am focusing a lot of my free time on building out Bikingis.fun which is a little calendar of community bike rides for San Diego and Tijuana. It is the calendar I wished existed when I moved here 11 years ago, and am happy to provide as a gift back to our cycling community. I have also been working hard on B.A.R.F. aka Bikes Are Really Fun aka Beers And Rad Friends or whatever acronym fits your fancy.

What are you currently focused on with all that?

I think I have taken Bikingis.fun about as far as I want it to go, so I am just focusing on keeping the calendar up to date and reducing the amount of time it takes to compile it weekly. B.A.R.F. however, I could see growing a lot in the coming years. B.A.R.F. is a small collective of weirdos who come up with D.I.Y. bike race concepts or strange biking adventures and we exist to share resources and to help get our ideas for events out of our heads and into real life. We have already thrown several races of our own, helped out with Team Cretins Fundraisers, collaborated with other crews on rides, and even inspired an offshoot club up in Sacramento. We have big plans for the rest of 2024 and some very exciting ideas for 2025 and beyond.

What do you want our readers to know?

Some people have asked me/bikingis.fun if there is [X] type of ride in [X] neighborhood, and I like to encourage them to find out and that if there isn’t they should start one. Every group ride out there was an idea in someone’s head until they went out and just did the ride, many of them probably started as two person group rides for a long time before any kind of critical following occurred. I also firmly believe that if you are going to create an event or ride or whatever, you should do it knowing that you very well may be the only person who shows up, so make it fun for yourself.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

If you ever find yourself saying “someone should do [some ride concept/clean up the local trails/clean up trash/etc.]” you should be ready to be that somebody, otherwise you are just complaining.

Lastly, what is your favorite area to ride in San Diego and why?

I have a special place in my heart for No Hands Wednesday. It was the first group ride in San Diego I started doing consistently, and I met some of my closest friends at that ride. Typically I hate riding the same route twice, but I have ridden that route well over 100 times and I still look forward to it each and every week.

Thanks for sharing all this with us Cris. Thanks to you the reader for reading – be sure to give Cris a follow on the socials mentioned.
